THE NEFF BROTHERS: SOUNDPOST & BRIDLE
The youthful-looking Flaithri (uilleann pipes) and Eoghan (fiddle) Neff show a remarkable technical command of their respective instruments--the two brothers have won several All-Ireland titles--but, as one sometimes finds with young performers, they may need a few more years to learn to rein in that awsome technique and put it in the service of good taste. Here, the fiddle player seems to be the one who has a tendency to engage in somewhat gratuitous, showy variations, more sound effects than music, which to my ear diminishes their otherwise quite extraordinary performances. Adequate bodhran and bouzouki accompaniments.
