GAVIN WHELAN: GAVIN WHELAN
This young Dubliner plays a mean, clean whistle, and has surrounded himself with the likes of Eoin O'Neill (bouzouki), Donnacha Moynihan and Gavin Ralston (guitar), Colm Murphy and Donnacha Gough (bodhran)--for decidedly modern-sounding driving accompaniment--as well as the excellent fiddle player Zoe Conway. In his selection of tunes, Whelan achieves a nice balance between great traditional tunes covering the whole stylistic map and recent compositions by Paddy Fahy, Josephine Keegan, Tommy Peoples, Joe Liddy, and John Brady.
