A selection of classic recordings from the 78 era, featuring such famed ensembles as The Ballinakill Traditional Players (East Galway), the Aughrim Slopes Ceili Band (East Galway), the Belhavel Trio (Leitrim), the Kincora Ceili Band, led by Kathleen Harrington, and several others. The remastering is not nearly as well done as on many other collections of early recordings, and it seems that the condition of the records used may be partly to blame, as some of the sides chosen were obviously not in the best condition. Nevertheless, the collection provides a good introduction to the tradition of the ceili band, which is also well documented in the liner notes.
