DAVY SPILLANE & KEVIN GLACKIN: FORGOTTEN DAYS
A gorgeous pure-drop recording by two masters of their respective instruments, uilleann pipes and fiddle, with no added accompaniment--Spillane also plays some low whistle. Most of the tunes are fairly common, but the performances are not. Not only do the timbres of pipes and fiddle blend so nicely in general, but Spillane and Glackin play very well together. Each musician also contributes one solo track, Glackin playing the epic reel "Lord Gordon" with a Donegal flavor reminiscent of John Doherty's version, and Spillane concluding the album with an arresting performance of the air "Port na bPucai."
