THE RUSSELL FAMILY OF DOOLIN, CO. CLARE (THE CLARE SET VOL. 1)
Pakie Russell: concertina, vocals
Miko Russell: flute, tinwhistle, vocals
Gussie Russell: tinwhistle

Doolin has long been a favorite destination for those looking for traditional music and scenery in the west of Ireland, and the Russell brothers were one reason that made the local music scene so special. The brothers, now all deceased, had learned their music from pipers like Johnny Doran and Willie Clancy, and from famous Clare concertina player Pady Murphy. They were recorded in the famous local pub O'Connor's in January 1974. Like on other CDs in this series, the bulk of the tracks (19) is from the original 1975 LP release, but there are 7 additional tracks chosen from original session recordings which had not been used. A thick booklet provides extensive background information and tune notes.
