JIMMY NOONAN & CHRIS McGRATH: THE MAPLE LEAF
Fifteen tracks of wonderful duet playing by Boston-based Irish musicians Jimmy Noonan (flute), known for his previous CD "The Clare Connection," and Chris McGrath (fiddle, concertina), with excellent accompaniments by Michael Shorrock (bouzouki) and Ted Davis (guitar), and guest appearances by Kevin Griffin (banjo) and Myron Bretholz (bodhran). Noonan and McGrath have been playing together in sessions for a while now, and the kind of musical rapport developped by musicians that way is plainly heard here. The two musicians revel in dance music and recorded mostly reels and jigs here, with one track of hornpipes and a couple of barndance medleys. This is lovely traditional music throughout.
