TOMMY KEARNEY: THE MASTER PIPERS VOL. 2
Tommy Kearney: uilleann pipes
Jimmy Power: fiddle

Although not as extraordinary a player of the uilleann pipes as Johnny Doran, whose recordings were re-released as Vol. 1 of this series produced by the Dublin Pipers' Club, Co. Waterford piper Tommy Kearney is a seminal figure in the world of Irish piping because of his place as the heir of a particular style of piping, combining open-style melody work and staccato ornamentation with almost constant regulator accompaniment, which he learned from Liam Walsh. This collection of 28 tracks (plus one spoken track), some recorded in 1965, others as recently as 2002, preserves this important legacy. Several of the 1965 tracks also feature fellow Waterford musician Jimmy Power on the fiddle.
