P.J. & MARCUS HERNON: THE GROUSE IN THE HEATHER
All the tunes on this lovely CD are compositions of flute player Marcus Hernon, very nice material overall, and well delivered with P.J.'s strong button-accordion and Charlie Lennon's piano backing. Like Lennon's tunes, Hernon's sound very much like the old traditional stuff, but with a certain "je ne sais quoi." Only time will tell if they can enter the tradition, but I wouldn't be surprised if they did, and such a strong performance can only help.
