PADDY GLACKIN: IN FULL SPATE (1991)
Paddy Glackin: fiddle
Seamus & Kevin Glackin: fiddles
Robbie Hannan: uilleann pipes
Donal Lunny: bouzouki, guitar, bodhran, keyboards
Frank McNamara: piano
Although perhaps not as breathtakingly good as Glackin's first solo album, which unfortunately is not available on CD, this 1991 album has some mighty fine playing. The influence exerted on Glackin's music by the great Donegal fiddle player John Doherty is well in evidence, both in the repertoire and the vigor of the playing. Glackin gives a soulful performance of the air "Paddy's Rambles Through the Park," also learned from John Doherty. Glackin's duets with Co. Down piper Robbie Hannan are gorgeous, and there's an exciting fiddle trio by the Glackin brothers, with octave playing on the concluding jig "The Irish Washerwoman." Donal Lunny's accompaniments (he is a one-man band here) range from classic backings on bouzouki, guitar, and bodhran to modern-sounding keyboards riffs.
