DAMIEN CONNOLLY: TIPPIN' AWAY
A delightful debut album by the son of Clare box player Martin Connolly--Damien was in fact featured on a couple of tracks on his father's recent CD "Back to Brooklyn," listed below. Damien plays both B/C accordion (one of those lush sounding Kincora boxes) and the one-row melodeon, and it sounds to me like he plays the B/C box with the same kind of bounce that is more usually heard from the melodeon. A lot of interesting, seldom heard Irish tunes, and a few French- Canadian and French ones as well, learned from players met at the Gathering of World Accordionists in Quebec. With solid, restrained guitar accompaniments by Pete Mancuso.
