PETER & NOEL CARBERRY: THE PIPES ARE CALLING
Peter Carberry: uilleann pipes
Noel Carberry: uilleann pipes
Johnnie Duffy: guitars
Paul Gurney: keyboards
Like for Jerry O'Sullivan, who wrote the introduction for the liner notes, the 1960s LP recorded by Co. Longford piper Peter Carberry with Tipperary fiddle master Sean Ryan has been a favorite of mine since I discovered a copy at a garage sale years ago. In a way, Peter Carberry, playing now almost note for note with his son Noel, on uilleann pipes as well, picks up where he left off. The 19 tracks they recorded feature nicely paced performances and well crafted settings, with some discreet accompaniments on piano and guitar. Listening to father and son playing so well together, one cannot escape the sense of witnessing the emergence of another piping dynasty--in fact, two of Peter's grandsons play pipes as well.
