A monumental transcription of the dance music of famous piper, singer and music collector Seamus Ennis has been compiled by Pat Mitchell, who previously did similar work on the music of pipers Willie Clancy and Patsy Touhey. This is a magnificent large-format hardcover book, over 400-pages long, with complete transcriptions (including regulators) of Ennis’ playing of several hundred dance tunes, transcribed from both commercial and private recordings. There are over 40 pages of introduction comprising an Ennis biography and covering topics such as Ennis’ style and manner of ornamentation, matters of notation, etc. This is truly an awe-inspiring achievement.
