LUNASA: NOTAI - MUSIC FROM THE RECORDINGS OF LUNASA
Lunasa hardly needs any introduction, they have wowed audiences the world around for the last ten years with their contemporary arrangments of (mostly) Irish traditional tunes, and have recorded six albums so far. This new tunebook contains all the material from their last three releases, "Redwood," "The Kinnitty Sessions," and "Se." The music is presented in standard notation with chord symbols--some of the tunes are transcribed twice, in the less common key in which Lunasa recorded them as well as the more standard key in which the sessiongoer might be more likely to hear them played. There's a lot of great material here, traditional tunes of course, but also quite a few recent compositions (including several of Donogh Hennessy's lovely creations), and some tunes from outside the Irish tradition proper, Scotland and Brittany in particular. Most tunes are accompanied by notes on their origins. An excellent production, and a great resource.
